Hit the Ice this weekend

Hello Icer's,

Saturday Report

Well the cold weather did not stop us from getting out this weekend but it sure made the fishing tuff. Started fishing at 6:00 am on Saturday at Moundwood. It was a balmy -22 degrees. We used everything in the tackle box and we did not get a sniff.

Decided to move over to the Lake shore area around 10:00 am and to our surprise there was no one on the spot. We ended up having a steady bite of Bluegills. Only problem was they were all dinks.

Around 1:00 we went over to Long Island and it was packed. We spotted over 150 cars jammed in and we figured we would join in. Before setting up, we spoke to a few guys and the the bite was tuff. We fished till 6:00 pm and never marked a fish. The only positive thing was I was able to give everyone a flier for next Sundays Humminbird promotion at Moundwood. I notice that Big Joshy posted the promotion on Ohio Game Fishing. Thanks Big Joshy!

Sunday Report

Took the boys over to Alum off the New Galena ramp. Ice was a good 6 inches but it is snow covered so be very careful if you venture further that 50 yards from the rip rap as no one ventured past that to check the ice. Could be some thin spots.

When walking down we passed a father and his 2 boys. He said they caught around 40 crappie with 12 good ones. He said the bite was still on. We set up and caught a few but it must have been a morning bite. We stayed till 6 and called it a day.

These two days of fishing has allowed me to really get tuned into the new Humminbird 55. I really like the digital read out in the center. The one feature that really performed was the 6 color display. I had a big ball of shad underneath me today. I had it set up on 3 color and could not pick out the Crappie mixed into the shad. When I switched over to the five color it separated the shad in blue and the crappie showed up as a orange. I was able to get my jig right into the ball of shad and in front of the crappie and that is how I was able to catch them.

I would like to invite everyone to try the Humminbird Ice Flashers this Sunday at Indian lake on Sunday from 10:00 to 3:00. We will be at Moundwood along the channel. Sign up at our Mobile advertising truck or leave a comment under the Indian Lake post.

See you on the ice!

Humminbird 55 product review

Hello Icer's,

I have been able to use the Humminbird 55 ice flasher 3 times now and I am very impressed with all the features. I have been a Vexilar fl 8 user for the past five years and now it is up for sale. There is so many features that I will have to take some more time on the water under different fishing conditions to fully appreciate how the features will catch more fish.

The first feature right off the bat is the large screen itself and the multiple color choices you can select. I have mine set on the five color pallet. The vex only offered 3 choices. Red is a strong signal and means hold onto your rod and watch the fish hit your bait. Orange is a fairly strong signal and means the fish is close and as it gets closer into the cone than it will turn red. Yellow is medium signal, light green is a fairly weak signal, green is week and blue is a very week signal. The over sized screen allows you to view from any angle and from a good distant away from the unit.

Another feature I like in the center is a active display screen which allows you to view automatic depth of the bottom, voltage, zoom, noise rejections, gain, and beam setting. During the night you will be very impressed with the back lighting and the vivid color pallets. To view more info on the Humminbird Ice Flsher visit http://www.humminbird.com/

I will be bringing more specific applications on how the unit helped me catch more fish shortly.

Also, We would also like to invite you to on the water demonstrations of the Humminbird 55,45, and 35. We will also be supplying hot coffee and donuts. Please check out the dates, locations and times on the calender.

Finally, I would like everyone to sign up for fantasy fishing presented by FLW. It's simple to enter and it's free. The top 430 finishers will receive a prize at each event. Each event winner will win $100,000 and the year end points champion will win $1,000,000. The guy who won last year used the players advantage to choose his picks. It does cost ten dollars but I am sure it was worth it to him. You can register for free right here. Good luck and I hope you win the million.
